Edgar Allan Poe was one of the leaders of the American Romantic Movement. He is most famous for his horror and detective fiction stores. But his poems are really good as well.
Here is a short poem by him:

Alone
From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

Does anyone like Edgar Allan Poe or other writers from the Romantic era? If so feel free to add one of his/her poems or expert from a story. :)

i LOVE poe, alone is one of my favorites, but then again most of his are....

another favorite:

Bridal Ballad

The ring is on my hand,
And the wreath is on my brow;
Satin and jewels grand
Are all at my command,
And I am happy now.

And my lord he loves me well;
But, when first he breathed his vow,
I felt my bosom swell-
For the words rang as a knell,
And the voice seemed his who fell
In the battle down the dell,
And who is happy now.

But he spoke to re-assure me,
And he kissed my pallid brow,
While a reverie came o'er me,
And to the church-yard bore me,
And I sighed to him before me,
Thinking him dead D'Elormie,
"Oh, I am happy now!"

And thus the words were spoken,
And this the plighted vow,
And, though my faith be broken,
And, though my heart be broken,
Here is a ring, as token
That I am happy now!

Would God I could awaken!
For I dream I know not how!
And my soul is sorely shaken
Lest an evil step be taken,-
Lest the dead who is forsaken
May not be happy now.

Edgar Allan Poe

written from the female perspective, it is about a bride who was betrothed to a man name D'Elormie, who died. she has decided to marry another after his death, but is haunted by guilt with his image at her current wedding.

I might generate a little flak for saying this, but I prefer Poe's stories over his poems. "Fall ofthe House of Usher" is one of my favourite reads. That said, I do quite like his poem, "Lenore."
